(update) I left my mouse out of the charger overnight (and left the power switch in the "on" position) and did not get any "critical battery" warnings by the time I put it back in the charger at lunch. So, I got at least a day and a half out of it without charging.

Wanted to share:

I just wanted to report that I was having all kinds of problems recharging my mouse similar to those reported here. Slow green pulse for a few seconds then flashing red - over and over and over. It would take forever to charge and then my system would report "battery is critically low" after only an hour or two.

All of this was when I was using a 1000mAh battery. I switched to a 1800mAh battery and the problems are pretty much gone. There is only one weird behavior I get now. I put my mouse in the charger at the end of my work day, it slow pulses green for the several minutes before I leave. When I get in the next morning, it is flashing red. I take the mouse out of the charger and put it right back on and I get a steady green light (meaning no more charging needed). The battery lasts at least 4 hours or so when I put it in the charger again over lunch. I will try a test without putting it in the charger to see if the battery will last an entire work day.

I have the exact same mouse and i tried out something new because the folded paper DOES NOT WORK for my problem.
What DID work was making sure the switch for power (on off switch on the bottom) made it stop flashing red after a little bit! It charges perfectly fine now! try it out, i hope it works for you!!

My guess is the Energiser is the correct size. The mouse is great, even if Microsoft's battery supplier isn't, and the point of this mouse is you don't have to change the battery (well, once you find a correct size one) as it recharges.

I have one wireless mouse for my media center PC when I want to use it as a computer so that's about 2 metres away and on my desk I use one simply 'cause I hate the mess of wires.

But batteries should be a standard size: if the Energizer is bigger than the standard then it is defective, and if the MS Mouse doesn't work with standard size batteries then it is defective too. How do you reconcile that with 'they make good mice...'?

I've given up on wireless keyboards and mice precisely because of the need to keep swapping batteries. When do you ever get far enough away from the PC to make wireless useful, anyway?
