Ah, good ol' religious language wars!

PHP is very much alive and well. It seemed like a good candidate because I run a number of web sites using Wordpress, and because the specific project I had in mind is suited to it. Ruby On Rails is on my list of things to look at as suitable projects come along, as obviously you can do some pretty cool stuff in it.

Why in the hell would you learn such a backwards, old-world trash languange/framework as php in 2007. It is a fundamentally flawed language/framework. Why not at least try something like rails?

That's pretty cool, Thomas. Portability wasn't the first thing I was thinking of when putting it on a Virtual Machine (I was just trying to avoid clogging up my main PC with dev stuff), but that might be worth a look for moving stuff around.

I've been developing with a USB Pendrive (or whatever you want to call them) and XAMPP (http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html) on it. Doesnt matter where I'am, I can start the Apache/MySQL modules and code directly on the Pendrive
